same same but different

German and (Flemish) Dutch have a
lot in common since they both are
Germanic languages. One commonness
is the expression ‘Falsche Freunde’
which literally means ‘Fake
Friends’. It names those words that
look the same but their sound and
meaning differ.

This publication is about building
bridges between the similarities
and differences found those lan-
guages. I tried to emphasize the
differences while working on the
similarities, which I did by cre-
ating new ligatures for those
sounds that look the same but are
different. Though it's personal
approach to connecting both German
and (Flemish) Dutch.

I used the existing characters of
IBM Plex (which is an open source
typeface) as components to
reassemble them into new forms.
